Multi-Age
Classrooms
To aid in the personalized
education of the child, we emphasize mixed-age
groups. Within our classrooms, the child can
be enriched both cognitively and socially
at the level that is comfortable for him/her.

- Our music class meets thirty minutes, once a week. Early childhood music classes at PMEI will introduce children to the Orff process of experiencing music. Created by composer Carl Orff, the philosophy emphasizes creating a framework for student improvisation and creativity. Speech patterns lay the foundation for singing skills and manipulatives such as puppets, scarves and beanbags, serve as springboards to familiarize children with space, sound, silence and rhythm concepts.

- Library is offered to our primary students every other week. The children come into the library with their class to learn about library related topics: how to take care of a book, how to check out a book, how to find books, and more. After each lesson a story time will follow. Each visit to the library the students will select and check out a book to keep in their classroom library.

- The introductory Spanish Curriculum at PMEI will instill in the beginning student a sense of enjoyment of the Spanish language as well as an appreciation for the Spanish culture. Through games, songs, craft and art activities, the students will be exposed to the Spanish experience. Utilitarian Spanish will be achieved through call and response activities, songs, rote memorization, and daily drilling. Spanish vocabulary will be introduced and then built upon at higher levels in subsequent classes. Props used to teach and reinforce lessons at this level include puppets, toys and popular music.
- The focus of this curriculum is to expose the student to the fundamental basics of the Spanish language, as well as the varied Spanish cultures throughout the world. This curriculum will continue to build on skills acquired in earlier Spanish classes and introduce new activities that expose students to common terminology as well as activities unique to various Spanish speaking countries. Exposure to phrases related to everyday experiences will be heard, repeated and reinforced through limited conversation and written expression. Music, ethnic food, cultural holidays and activities will enhance the student’s appreciation of the Spanish culture. Hands-on activities will bring an added dimension to the learning process. This balanced approach to Spanish will give the interested student who plans to continue studying Spanish at a higher level, a firmer foundation and deeper understanding of the Spanish language and culture.
